Do as little as you can

Dieting can sometimes seem overwhelming…

  • Calories
  • Carbs
  • Fats
  • Fluid Intake
  • Meal Timings
  • Good & Bad Food
  • Exercise
  • Sleep

and the list goes on.

The problem for most people is that they try and do all of the above at once, trying to wake up one morning and suddenly be perfect at everything. Thinking that miraculously they can switch from their current lifestyle to a lean, mean, fat burning machine. They assume that doing all of these things, at once, is going to make the fat drop off them and get the job done in no time.

Now if we remember that there are 2 key elements to fat loss, and only 2:

  • Calories
  • Consistency

Then we can begin to see why the above attitude (everything or nothing) is a problem.

Calories are simple (just eat and drink less and move around a bit more) but the consistency one is the problem.

When you try and do everything at once it’s too much. To suddenly become this new person who is capable of doing everything polar opposite to how they normally do is at best short lived and at worst, damaging.

This then means that the consistency element of fat loss, the bit that 99% of people fail with, has absolutely no chance. Primarily because if you fail on ONE of the goals, you bail on the others thinking it’s all gone wrong and what’s the point.

But the truth is that fat loss is actually a lot easier than you probably think. You don’t need to actually change much to drop weight, you honestly don’t.

YES you need to consume fewer calories, we all know this BUT from the consistency side of the equation just a simple small change may be enough.

  • Get more sleep
  • Park further from the shop entrance
  • Get up and walk around every 30 minutes

Small little things could just be enough to tip things in your favour. You don’t have to try EVERYTHING at once, try one thing, see if it’s enough, if it is, BINGO, you’ve nailed it, if it’s not, add something else in but DO NOT throw everything at it straight off.

The more things you try and change about your life, the harder it will be to stick to it, and if you can’t stick to it then you’ve blown the consistency element of the fat loss equation.

So if you are struggling to drink your water, focus on moving more. if you can’t move more focus on getting some better sleep. You get the idea.

Don’t be all or nothing from a lifestyle point of view. YES you have to get the calories right, that’s non negotiable I am afraid, but the consistency part IS in your control, so be clever, and break yourself in gently.
