It’s ALL About You

All of us, me included, want a quick fix when dieting. No one wants to have to go through the pain, the discomfort, the time and the hassle of dieting. It sucks, it’s rubbish. We all get it!
We would all like a magic plan that meant we didn’t have to do any work for it, something that gave us the results easily. Each time we fail on a diet, eat what we shouldn’t, drink too much, give up bothering to weigh stuff we simply decide the diet isn’t for us, or is broken and look for something else.
In reality what you are actually looking for is something that allows you to eat as much as you want, drink with abandonment and maybe doesn’t make us weigh things. Anything at all that we can blame for US not being able to diet.
And that’s the truth I am afraid. Diet’s are rarely broken, they are actually the simplest thing in the world. They just need to maintain a calorie deficit (fewer calories than you burn) and be as close to your preferred way of eating as possible.
When you fail on a diet, when you cheat, when you take a day off, or just a meal off, or decide “Sod it, tonight I am having a drink” it is ALL YOU. You are doing that. Not the diet. YOU are making a conscious decision to blow it and not follow your plan.
YOU are deciding that you want to set yourself backwards, to give up this day as an opportunity to move closer to your goals, to extend the whole dieting rollercoaster. No one else. YOU.
You need to realise that a time has to come where enough is enough. You have to make a stand, you have to decide you are done with all this dieting rubbish and you want to get on with living life. Everyones goal is achievable, no matter how far away it may seem, it simply takes consistency and time. that’s it, 2 little things.
But most importantly you have to realise that dieting, and your personal dieting journey is all about YOU, no one else can do it for you, no one can magic a wand and no one can simply wink at you and make it all ok.
It’s not easy I know (if it was I would be homeless) so you have to stand up and take responsibility. You got yourself in this mess, you have to get yourself out of it. That’s not something to be sad about, or to feel depressed over, it simply is what it is. You need to realise that as soon as possible or you are never going to make headway.
So sit down, list in your head ALL the things you hate about being overweight (the clothes, the social events, the holidays, the lack of control) all of it, in fact write it down, even better, and then sit there and understand that now it is over to YOU, you make the choices, you make the decisions, you eat the food, you drink the drink and YOU do the physical activity.
Your success and progress is all about YOU, stop waiting for anyone to do it for you, or to give you the golden egg, because it isn’t coming, sorry.
Yes my diet plans are epic, and my understanding of diets and human psychology is better than most, but I still can’t actually do the dieting for you, YOU HAVE TO DO THAT, that’s your part of the deal…
So it’s over to you! What are you going to do? Keep blaming the diet, or circumstances, or medication, or illness (the list goes on….)
or
Are you simply going to get on with it, stop moaning, and get the job done?
