The odds are poor but…

When you are trying to diet you are faced with incredible obstacles:
- Long working hours
- Unsupportive partners
- Kids
- Social events
- Selfish friends
- Fast food temptations
- Depression
- Your actual body doesn’t even want to lose weight
When you consider everything going on it’s a miracle anyone loses weight, ever, BUT THEY DO.
All of the above can be overcome, or at least managed to a degree, to allow you to move towards your goal. But sometimes you have to take a moment to realise that ANY weight loss is an incredible achievement. You have congratulate yourself and have a little ‘Well Done You’ moment.
You are battling on two fronts:
YOUR HEAD
This is the work, family, friends, socialising, ease of convenience food, cravings and desires. These are the habits you have formed and the crutches you have made (celebrations, depressions etc). When you lose weight, regardless of how much, you have managed to stick a finger up to most if not all of those problems and won a round. It’s not a small achievement, so WELL DONE
YOUR BODY
As I have discussed loads in the past, this little bad boy doesn’t WANT to lose weight, it does all it can biologically to stop you. It messes with it’s hormones, sends you hunger signals, fiddles around with your metabolism, loses weight from the bits you don’t want it to first, basically has a little riot at your expense.
Now when you consider all of this, and are sat there, sad about your 1lb loss this week, or your slow progress, understand that ANY progress is progress.
And most likely, for a long period of time, you were probably actually putting weight ON slowly, so why are you sad? Why are you not elated and overjoyed?
YES you want it all now, yes you want it yesterday but it is NOT going to happen, and even if it does in the early days the body will catch on and soon put a stop to it, so you are wasting your time. You are setting yourself up for misery further down the line, believe me.
So listen, yes you are faced with incredibly bad odds at achieving this, yes the world is against you, yes it is going to take some time and yes it’s going to be hard.
But it CAN be done if your head is in the right place. If you accept all of these things are going to get in the way, and make peace with them they CAN be overcome.
There is no point in sitting there and feeling sorry for yourself, or down in the dumps, or what’s the point. You have to stand up, be strong, face it all head on, determined, positive and steadfast. It is ONLY going to be overcome if you KEEP GOING and do not give up, until the job is done.
If it was easy you would have lost your weight a long time ago and would not be reading this now, but it isn’t and you are. So don’t look at the negatives of your dieting journey as negatives, simply as challenges that YOU are going to show who is boss and YOU are going to keep banging away at until they break and succumb to your will.
Determination and consistency, even in the dark times when your weight doesn’t move or even goes the wrong way, are your weapons. USE THEM. Don’t let them beat you, don’t let them get you down, don’t let them get the upper hand. If you do let them beat you though Fatty Freddie wins, and he is a miserable git that will make the rest of your life depressing and literally awful.
So stand up and take the fight to them, and remember that ANY LOSS no matter how small is a victory for you.
