You are the enemy

I have said this so many times but if you follow your diet plan at least 90%, the ONLY thing standing between you and reaching your goals is simply a little time.
The problem is that you self sabotage yourself. You want it all yesterday, you want it done now. You don’t want to wait 4 months, you don’t want it to be a nice slow steady 1.5lb a week. I understand that, and completely agree. it sucks, When I diet I am exactly the same.
But your impatience is one of the biggest obstacles to you achieving your goals. We all know “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, “A wall is built one brick at a time” blah blah but that doesn’t help when you look in the mirror in the morning and not only still don’t like what you see but feel despondent at the thought of still having so much work to do.
The issue is made worse when you see friends, colleagues and people on social media doing great in the first few weeks on their diets and the first thing you think is “my diet isn’t working for me”.
The truth is ANY diet will work for you, ANY. If you are losing weight, no matter how slow, it is working for you. The problem is your body and your head.
BODY
It will lose weight at its own rate, period. All you can do with a diet is give the body the stimulus it needs to lose weight. Be more active, eat well, create a calorie deficit, bingo. That’s it. There is literally nothing more you can do. You’re either a person who loses slow (around 80% of people) or you lose quick, but you can not change that, and there is no magical diet that will alter it.
If Doris is losing 4lb a week, every single week for the last 2 months then lucky her, but if you are struggling to lose 1lb a week NOTHING you do will speed that up, regardless of what diet you follow (assuming you are sticking to your plan of course)
HEAD
Here is the serious part. Because you want it quicker your head plays games with you, tells you that the diet Doris is on must be better and somehow magically it will make you lose weight quicker OR it tells you that sod it whats the point, you’re not losing weight fast anyway so go and eat all that chocolate and cake and life is too short, and this is too hard, and f**k it!
But in doing so you’re only delaying the end goal, you are making the whole process even harder AND you are simply making yourself stay in this unhappy place for even longer.
There has to be a point where you sit and have a word with yourself, where you have a serious hard think about what you want. If you want to be dieting the rest of your life, miserable with how you look and feel, then fine, eat the cake and chocolate, fall off your plan, keep jumping ship and I guarantee you will be dieting for ever, never reaching your goal and actually getting heavier or…
You can make peace with your body.
“look body, we are a team. YOU don’t like being overweight and I don’t like being overweight, so let’s sort this, once and for all, let’s finally get our act together and deal with this”
Your body wants to lose weight, YOU want to lose weight, the only thing standing in the way of all that happening is YOU, YOU are your own worse enemy!
So change it, get your head into gear, accept there is a little discomfort ahead and crack on with the job, stick to your plan, stop cheating, stop just having ‘one night/day/meal whatever off plan, stop guessing stuff, stop winging it, just stop everything and do what is needed because it will NEVER be over unless you do.
